His palomino splashed frame moved through the trees with uneasy grace. His honey gold pools searched for anything that might help cure this loneliness. He snorted in dismay. It seemed it was alone in this ever going trail of dead foliage and trees. His long, slender pillars moved into an easy canter. The brute avoided trees and low-hanging branches easily, ducking his magnificent dial below them. Every now and again, something would snatch a tangle in his creamy white mane, or tug at his long, white banner, and he'd snort in discomfort.
The stag had not long been a stag. Only two years as a grown equine, and already, he knew of the cruelty of the world, but was still able to wear a smile upon his handsome face. Still able to keep the light in his eyes. He'd seen his first mare die after she gave him his first foal. A healthy colt. However, the brute had to give his son away, to a mare that could provide what he could not. It had been a horrid loss for the monstrosity, but he had turned out alright, so he'd like to think. It wasn't like he'd gone mentally insane from the death of his first mare, and the loss of his only child like most equines did these days.
Nikolai was still young. He knew the world would hold many more challenges that he would have to face. That life would through bullshit in his way, and he'd have to walk through it, if he ever wanted to have the fresh air on the other side. Life was just something that seemed to enjoy surprises. To throw them in one's face was were life got the most pleasure. To run in the misery and stress. However, it seemed that Nikolai disappointed life in the way that he hardly ever let anything get to him, but when something did, life seemed to suck it up and try to make it worse. It was almost like life was the ultimate depressant. Always wanting to get someone done, and then kick them before they could stand on their own feet again. Sad, but true.
Nikolai felt a warm sensation on his back and stopped, glancing towards the sky. It's bright blue hue revealed the sunshine that pounded on the King's spine. His harks pricked forward in slight interest towards the heavens. However, his honey gold orbs refocused on the path before him and he sighed to himself, letting his smile fade to a frown across his kissers. With a toss of his crania, the stag made a sharp left and bean to trot steadily in that direction. He found a small area where trees were parted just enough for the grass to stretch to the sky greedily, their hunger for the food provided by the sun never satisfied.
The brute stretched his neck to the ground, grazing for a mere moment. His silky white locks falling forward, and seeming almost transparent when the sun hit the strands of white in just the right way. However, the beast soon lifted his dial and looked around, harks twitching in every direction, seekers looking straight ahead in boredom. Honesty, the brute had hoped to find some sort of soul walking around, just to cure the loneliness that tore at his heartstrings, but it appeared as if he were mistaken.

She grazed a bit as she ambled further in. She flicked her tail, swatting at the pesky horse flies that bit into her coat. She ambled further into the forest again and enjoyed the relative peace of it. there was an abundance of stuff to examine and that was just perfect for Luna. As she stood watching a small troop of ants make their long trek down an ant hill and out to go on a food gathering expedition, her harks twitched as they needed a bit of a stretch and needed a bit of an exercise.
Distracted by her impulse to stretch her legs she straightened her head. Luna moved with an agile, cat-like grace around the ant hill. She smiled to herself in an airy and carefree way. There was a bird, twitting along unaware that he was being watched by a chocolaty-black horse with a cream colored mane. She picked up the pace, practicing her gaits, and began to trot. Luna tossed her head and moved it down to her back was no longer swayed. She was in frame.
She enjoyed herself as she moved from walk to trot to canter to trot to canter to run to gallop and back. He creamy tail flew behind her as she continued her exercise. The young forest around her with it's smaller trees, some hardly bigger then her hoof.
"It had once been a tall and mighty forest... and then a forest fire happened, as they do often, and now it's a little forest teeming with new growth." Luna said aloud to no one in general.
She flicked her head again, twitching her forelock out of her eyes. Her crystal blue eyes glanced at everything around her, there was a patch of dead trees and ferns, grass that was brown and not very appetizing in looks. But, Luna, being Luna, had to explore even the more desolate parts and the more boring parts of a forest.
She moved into the openness of the clearing and stopped short for there was a horse, a stag, with honey glazed eyes and matching honey paint coat. Luna froze, stock still, unsure of the strange horse and what he would do and react.

His honey gold pools cast a gentle glance toward the mare as she entered his presence. She was tense, and it seemed as though she feared him. She was waiting. But for what? Him to attack her? He snorted and dipped his dial, looking up at the mare with his happy orbs. His harks pricked in her direction and he grunted softly. When he spoke, his voice was soft, and a caressing note played across his lips. "Hello." He said, lifting his crown then. He flicked his silken white banner, and grunted softly, his seekers taking on an interest to the femmora as he scanned her bodice.
She was small, but not too small. Her coat was coal black, with a small hint of brown. Her locks were creme colored, and her eyes, as striking shade of blue. Nikolai took a step forward, his palomino splashed frame glimmering in the light that struck him. A magnificent display he was. "I'm Nikolai." He said slowly, as not to startle the dove. "May I have the pleasure in knowing your calling?" He spoke gently, a smile on his creme kissers.
Oh, this tiny mare was lovely. Nikolai had never looked at a mare and saw her anything more than another mare, but this femmora caught his eye. He'd never seen a fae of her coloring. Perhaps it was because he'd only met four other horses his time alone, and none looked like she did in his herd when he was growing up. She was... Magnificent. Honestly, Nikolai felt it was loneliness tainting his mind. Don't frighten her, Nikolai. He thought to himself. His gold orbs fell to the ground then back up to the mare. A peppy smile was now across his maw as he glanced back up, a spark of usual happiness in his beautiful pools.

This surprised Luna mainly because, who in the world would go tromping through a patch of dead foliage, Oh... yeah... I would... She flicked her creme tail and moved a little bit closer studying him intently, she was shorter then him, he was magnificently splashed with a honey-cream color and white and he had honey-glazed eyes to match.
"Hullo, I'm Luna. Pleased to meat you Nikolai." Luna said with an airy and quiet voice.
She smiled and spoke again, "How do you do?"
She shifted her body so, instead of facing to the side of him she faced him front ways. Her dark chocolate body shivered as a leaf fell from a tree and managed to land on her back for a moment before drifting to the ground.
Distracted by the leaf she turned and watched it fall lazily to the ground. Once it was on the ground she turned, completely forgetting her new friend, Nikolie. She watched as the brown grass parted for a small black beetle to pass through. The little creature stopped at the newly fallen leaf and in Luna's mind she could almost see it's thought process.
"Should I take the leaf?" Luna imagined, "Or... Should I leave it for the juicy blackberry bush?"
She smiled and glanced to the other side of the little clearing and saw a few birds taking their pickings on the blackberry bush. Then, a noise distracted her again as an eagle screeched as he flew gracefully across the blue sky.
"Oh," she gasped, "How beautiful!" She reared up trying to see it as he flew past her range of view.
As her front hooves hit the ground again she remembered the other horse probably thinking she was a freak, Well, that wouldn't matter, being a freak just means your different. Horses only call other horses weird and freakish because they're either a) jealous or b) afraid of difference.

Her soft voice reached his systems. She had soft lyrics, and Nikolai couldn't stop the sparkle that entered his pools. He bowed his head in a graceful dip. "It's an honor to meet you, Luna." He said with a friendly smile. He looked at her blue eyes and for a moment, he was entranced, before her voice rang clear across the space between them. He took another step forward. "I can't complain." Nikolai replied. "I'm living as well as the next brute." He said with a soft chuckle before quieting himself to speak. "Yourself, madame?" He asked, lyrics soft and kind.
He watched her attention turn to a dead leaf as it fell onto her lovely pelt, before fluttering to the ground without a sound. Her attention seemed to be on something small. Something so small that Nikolai couldn't see it from his vantage point. However, her attention quickly turn to a horde of birds making a fuss over something, and Nikolai pricked his audits in interest at the mare before glancing towards the birds himself. Nikolai could tell that she was either easily distracted, or simply fascinated with what was around her. It was something he liked. Something she had in common with a sickly mare he once knew. However, he wished not to think that was why he was drawn to this femmora. He wanted to be drawn to her by his ownself. Not by past friendships. The beast couldn't say love, as he had never felt such a thing for a mare. Only deep affection. Deep protectiveness. Never love. Though the sickly fae had loved him more than her own life, he could not lie and say that he loved her. She was his friend, and bore him his foal, but he did not love her, though he did care for her.
He thought it was cruel to be that way. Not love, but still mate a mare. He regretted it, but at the same time, he rejoiced it. He'd had a son! What parents would ever regret their child? Nikolai wondered now, where was his six month old son. What he dead or still alive? Had the mare taken care of him as he had hoped, or had she perished, and his son as well? Did she ever truly care for the colt, or had that love vanished now that she had her own biological child of two months? Questions. Questions that Nikolai may never know that answer to.
He was drawn from his thoughts by the screech of an eagle and the excited lyrics of the feminine voice. He glanced to the sky to see a large eagle, dark chocolate wings spread out to their limits, soaring across the blue sky. The eagle's white head giving it away as the bald eagle. Rare. Endangered. It was a magnificent sight as it soared across the sky, then disappeared beyond the trees. Nikolai looked at the mare now, and saw her just before she landed. He smiled. She was something else. Different. Nikolai took two steps forward. Slowly, he was closing the space between them. However, he didn't was to discomfort her. "Very beautiful. May I ask, Luna, do things fascinate you easily?" He asked, a glimmer of interest in his golden eyes as he looked at her gently. Kindly.

She swished her tail and watched him take a step closer. He seems to be of the kind sort. Not one of those silly little horses who like to tease other incesantly. She smiled again as he asked her a question most horses wouldn't. They would have probably tried to ignore it but, silently judge me. It' refreshing to see someone who isn't like that.
"Do things easily fascinate me?Well, I suppose yes. It's just there is so much to see in life and so much to learn that I have to cram as much of it into my skull as possible!" She said quietly and with much thought.
"But, some might say I'm just easily distracted, which is partially true, but, as I said before you only have so much time to chalk your brain full off all you can." She laughed at herself, with a quiet and jinngling laugh to match her soft-spoken nature.
"Do you get fascinated by things easily? Not many horses do it seems, they seem focused on living and reproducing, which is nice in and of itself but, I guess I'm just one of those that think about the other stuff." She looked at him and thought to herself, My, this is the most I've said in a while, living on my own there's no one to talk to so you just keep quiet and talk or think to yourself
The another thought struck her, What if he thinks I'm weird!? She pondered this then quickly changed tracks, Why should I care? That never bothered me before... She shook her head, tossing her creamy locks about.

Nikolai chuckled at her words. "Fascination is such a silly thing, wouldn't you agree? So easy to feel, but hard to explain." He said thoughtfully. Actually, Nikolai was a logical thinker. Often times, he would think about whether or not words actually made sense to their meaning, and even how some objects came to be named. Who had actually taken the time to come up with these things? At someone become so bored that they actually thought up all the names of creation, or was it a natural thing? But then, who could even answer that question.
After a few seconds, Luna spoke once more and Nikolai nodded in agreement to her words. "Indeed. The world is filled with so many wonders. Gaining the knowledge of it all is just the beginning." He said with a kind smile. His gentle eyes looked to the sky once more. The day was still young, and Nikolai sighed. He preferred the night. It was quieter, and lovely. The moon was his ultimate fascination. His true desire. He could tell anyone anything about the moon they wished to know. It was his logical ability to explain it that fascinated most people. Nikolai had always loved the orbs of the sky. Especially when they cast their silver glow to the Earth, the beams like silver ribbons dancing across the lands and beings that stirred.
Once more, Luna's soft voice pulled Nikolai from his thoughts. A question she asked now, and Nikolai smiled. "Only certain things fascinate me. Like, for example, the moon, and the stars. Celestial delights that burn light years away, yet we can still see them as clear as day." Nikolai said, his smooth voice trailing off in thoughts of wonder. However, he cleared his throat and looked back at Luna, his expression slightly embarrassed. Most stallions had no sense of wonder. Just the feel for the need to breed. To extend their bloodlines. Most mares found Nikolai repulsive in nature once they saw his true side. The side that wondered. That was curious. The side that craved to learn more about the world that surrounded him. Mares these days wanted strong, fit stallions. Healthy. Able to bear young. To protect young. They never stuck around long enough to see the protective side of Nikolai. Then again, the stud saw fighting for mares and land pointless, and often times just gave it all away to avoid a fight. He was known as Nikolai the Pacifist. Fighting, he was completely against. However, he knew well that if it were for his young or a mare he actually managed to fall in love with, he would fight. If it were for his life. He would fight. If a brute wanted his land, he could have it. If a brute wanted his mares, he could have them. Nikolai simply didn't care. It was another reason that mares hadn't stood beside him for long.
Nikolai shook his dial to release himself from his thoughts and then snorted. He smiled kindly and flicked his white banner in slight curiosity. He wasn't sure why he was now drawn to Luna. She was different, perhaps that was why. He took another easy step forward, dipping his crown slightly as if to show his harmless nature to her.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,600,true][atrb=height,400,true] | [atrb=width,300,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][bg=000000] In between here little ramblings he seemed to have a memory struck up from the depths and that made Luna remember some of her own things. At the mention of the stars she looked at him more thoroughly, he seemed kind and gentle, yet more of a thinker than most of the brutes she had seen.
"When I was a little one my father used to tell me all these stories about the stars, he said that all the 'thinkers' and 'learners' and 'teachers' where the ones that shone the brightest, because they were the brightest in life and they are the brightest in death. And that all the dull ones were the horses that just ambled through life only caring about breeding and keeping their blood line going. My mom used to argue, that's silly she'd say, the stars are nothing more than brightly burning gas. Or at least that's what she'd been told, well, overheard and I'd just laugh and laugh, but, I always wished Dad's theory was true." She smiled then, but, it was a sad smile this time, for she truly missed her parents.
Her father was like her a dreamer and a thinker. He wanted not just to know the 'how' of things but also the 'why'. He'd always be asking 'Why does ____ work?' or 'Why does ___ that happen?' Luna's mother had been the same except she was more of a 'experimenter' instead of asking 'why' she'd figure it out on her own. Luna was a mix of the two, her mother was soft-spoken like her and her father was fascinated in everything like her.
He bowed his head towards her while advancing on more step. She smiled and bowed her head, for she thought it was the polite thing to do. As she straightened her neck she frowned at the sky. There was nothing wrong with it, but, that was the reason she frowned. Luna loved to see those clouds float across the sky as slow or as fast as they pleased. She loved to see what shapes she could find within the shapeless blobs.
"Night time is beautiful isn't it? You know that's when most of the creatures come out to play." she snorted, "And by play I mean eat each other." She laughed again a jingling noise almost like that of a store door's 'ringling jingling' when you opened it.
"Why does the sun come up and set from east to west?" Luna asked, her voice falling like fresh snow. She flicked her head, snapping the creme forlock out of her dark chocolate face with the lone white line.

His honey gold pools were gentle on her as she spoke. His auditories were pricked with immortal interest. She spoke, and he didn't seem to get enough of her words. The theory of her father, and then the knowledge of her mother. He listened to her wish, and then she quieted, however, he smiled and nodded. There are many theories regarding the celestial delights. Which ones are true is the ultimate questions that may never be answered. Equines knowledge only goes so far, and that is only if it is passed correctly from generation to generation, and new knowledge must be gained before one can build onto it." Nikolai said, his thoughts trailing off for a moment. Oh, yes. A thinker he was. A deep thinker. Always thinking. About anything and everything. It was simply who he was, and he couldn't help it.
Nikolai began to wonder then. What all had he learned? The moon, the reason it shone with such brilliance was because the moon reflects only about eleven percent of the sunlight that hits it. But the Sun is so bright that even this much reflection looks very bright to any beings that look at it.. The rocks on the lunar surface are greyish volcanic rocks, making them slightly reflective. What were stars? Well, Luna's mother had been correct. They were gas. However, the gas was illuminated, which made the stars glow, and they could be seen from Earth, even though some are light years away from the Earth.
Luna's words caught Nikolai's attention once more, and the brute chuckled at her as she laughed. The sound was beautiful to his thorns.. "Nighttime is lovely. When the moon is in the sky, those are my favorite hours." He said, glancing toward the blue sky with admiration. "As for creatures eating one another? It's nature. It's simply how things must be done." He shrugged, frowning now. He didn't like the idea of one creature killing another. Such as pacifist he was. Living to that title is what he did best. "If only the world worked in perfect harmony.." He said thoughtfully, his voice trailing off slightly.
Luna asked a question thing. Something Nikolai had recently discovered. He smiled and opened his kissers to answer her question. Even if it wasn't really directed for him to answer, he felt compelled to. To cure her curiosity. "The truth is that the Earth is orbiting the Sun. It’s the Sun that’s motionless, and the Earth that’s moving around it. From our vantage point, it looks like the Sun is going around the Earth, because it’s actually the Earth that’s turning. The Earth rotates on its axis once every twenty-four hours, so that the Sun returns to the same position in the sky every day." Nikolai said. "Basically, by the time our vantage point is in view of the sun again, the Earth is facing it from the East, and turning away from it at the West." He explained, smiling at her kindly, taking a few steps forward so that they were a mere three feet apart now. His eyes were bring as he looked at her.

'Survival of the Fittest' that's supposedly all that matters." Luna said scornfully but managing to keep her soft voice.
She flicked her tail, death was something she hated, for obvious reasons. It was like someone blowing out a candle, it had so much potential for light but, then it got swept into darkness. Death was one of the only sore subjects for Luna. Seh detested pointless fighting and didn't understand why one would be so barbaric. Her father and mother never fought so she thought neither should other horses. Even if they did fight, they at least had the grace to do it in private instead of fighting in front of their beloved daughter.
She sorely missed her father and her mother. She was missing pieces of herself without them. Her face fell as she remembered her father his once happy, talkitive and loving nature turned to depresion and seclusion. He had been slowly degenerating to this state as the year went on without her mother and his love.
"Do you have a family?" If horses could blush she would be doing so. That may have been a little personal... I usually am not this prying... But, I guess he's just different so I think... I think... I may like him? She snorted and looked up, "Sorry if that's a little personal, I'm just curious. You don't have to awnser."
The sky was growing a little darker, but, there were hours left until the sun went down. A warm summer breeze flickered through the trees to ruffle her dark coat. She cocked her head and listened to the forest, it was eerily silent, but, she couldn't charge off and figure out why, it would be rude.
"So, what brings you to the forest? I'm here because I thought it would be a great place to explore." She smiled and watched him, he was taller then her. But, that's not saying much as she was only 15 hh. He seemed, no he was nice, genuinly so. But, Luna couldn't get the feeling that something was bothering him, or he had some secret he was keeping. Or he had a sad experience happen to him.
Huh, that's a lot like me, I had several sad experiences happen, but, I try to hide it. Maybe I shouldn't? Maybe it'll fester until I can't take it? And then I'll loose it and become savage and no one would talk to me or bother me. You know? That wouldn't be that bad, if no one bothered me I could keep studying the world forevver and never ever have to bother with the real savages, the horses that don't care about anything.

Nikolai thought on her statement for a moment. "It would be quite nice, I do sincerely agree. However, our world would be over populated. Yes. It is survival of the fittest. Physically and mentally. Natural selection is what's the called. The weak are taken down, and the strong are left to weaken with time." Nikolai said, his smooth voice almost caressing the words.
For a young stallion he was wise. He was... Logical, in every aspect of the word. Nothing illogical ever passed his kissers. He looked at things from the scientific point of view. It was just the way Nikolai had been raised. His father has simply adored to study nature, animals and plant alike, and his mother? She loved astronomy. It was where Nikolai had adopted his knowledge from. He smiled at the thought of his parents, and wondered how they were. He missed his mother the most.
Nikolai smiled at her next question, and the statement that followed. He bowed his crown respectively and nodded. "My mother and father are still alive, I assume. I've heard no news of their passing, so I'm sure they must be alive and well." Nikolai said with a sparkling smile. However, his mind trailed to his son and Suzama, and his smiled faded. "I also have a son." He said in a quiet voice. "His name is Suzuko, after his mother, Suzama. I'm not sure where he is. As for Suzama, she passed, shortly after Suzuko's birth. She had been weak from birth, and delivering a foal took the last bit of life the poor fae had left." Nikolai said. His voice was almost a hushed whisper, and a glimmer of saddness now came to his eyes.
Suzama had been nothing more than a dear friend that Nikolai swore to protect because of her ailment. Suzuko had been the third thing Nikolai had ever loved, his mother and father being the first two. Suzama's death still hurt him at times, but he never fell in love with the mare, though he did love her in a way. To an extent. The extent of a friend. He would have still done anything in the world for her, but she was just that. A friend. Nikolai had never loved something as quickly as he loved Suzuko. Perhaps because it was his son. His own kin and blood. Or perhaps because the child needed love. Nikolai never wanted to lie to himself, so he always had the other option open. Just in case.
Another question pulled Nikolai from his train of thought. Ah. A question that was rather expected when conversation was dimming down. "I love to explore. It's a passion. Actually, I like to see how the stars and moon are set differently in different places. Plus, I like to get to know my surroundings before I settle. I am rather new to these lands." Nikolai said with a smile. He flashed his smile at Luna in a friendly way, and the look in her eyes was that of someone in deep thought. He titled his head. "What are you thinking, if you don't mind me asking?" He asked in a gentle voice.

Or a mate?' That's what I was thinking, or well, most of what I was thinking..." She laughed lightly and hoped her would ignore that last sentence.
"Suzuko? And Sasama? Beautiful names!" She stated, "My father would always tell me about names and their meanings, he was fascinated by them. I often asked what Luna meant and her would always reply with, 'You'll find out one day Lu.' I miss him." Her soft voice grew quieter as she mentioned her father.
"Do you believe one can die of heartbreak? I never did, until I watched it happen." She said, her voice velvet soft and almost inaudible. She flicked her ears and glanced at him, Why did I feel the need to share so much? Why was I even talking to him in the first place? Why? Why? And Why?
Luna believed in heartbreak and although she pretended to be strong, slowly, on the inside, she too was dieing of heartbreak, of a never healed wound from her mother and the little bit of salt that marred the wound further, was her father's abandonment of Luna. Why did he leave me? Luna was a dreamer and also a logical horse, she believed that there should always be a logical explanation and that one only needed to look deeper, study further, get more facts. But, why did this one question remain unsolved. Why... Why did he leave me?
Luna's eyes, although still as bright blue and electric as ever had never been as bright as when she had seen her father and mother. Her coat had never been as lustrous and her neigh never more pleasing to hear. She hid it, hid it well, she acted as if she had to survive for her mother and father but, that was a lie. A lie to herself and those around her. Of course, the average horse and most above average horses couldn't see through her mask. But, they also never knew the flower that had been blooming with the care of two special horses, the flower that had been wilting since their death. Why did they leave me?

For a moment, the brute stared in confusion at her words before they finally registered in his mind. He snorted and gave her a sympathetic smile. "Sometimes insanity is welcome in the hearts of those that wish to do nothing more but avoid the brutality of the world. You are example, dear Luna. However, sometimes, to avoid that brutality without insanity, we must find someone that wishes to avoid it as well." He said, his voice silken as he spoke. Gentle. Kind. Wise. He took another step forward, smiling broadly. "I am a pacifist. I believe that fighting without reason is pointless. When my father's herd was raided, I didn't stand and fight. I only protected Suzama because she was sickly, and my mother, because I loved her. I let the others fight. I protected. A stallion once wanted to fight me for a mare. I let him have her. She was a companion to me, and while I loved her as a dear friend, fighting for her would be have been stupid, and could have resulted in my end. Of course, I would have fought for her, had my feelings deepened. But they did not." Nikolai said. He wasn't sure why he chose to tell her thought, but he felt that he should.
"You say it was only most of what you were thinking. Do you wish to tell the other half, or would you rather keep it a secret?" Nikolai asked, consideration for her feelings sparkling in his golden pools. Every bit of the optimistic stag seemed to smile. It was almost as if he radiated kindness and happiness. Pure bliss.
"They would have loved that compliment." Nikolai said with a gentle smile. Suzama always loved compliments. What his son loved, well, he'd never really know. Nikolai sighed again at the thought of his child. How he missed him, though he'd only known him for a short time. If he wouldn't have given him to the pregnant mare that happened by, the poor colt would have starved to death. Thankfully, fate had been on their side. Good fate anyway.
Nikolai then thought about the other statement Luna had made and thought for a moment. "I wonder if it has the same meaning I'm thinking of, or if he had his own meaning." Nikolai said, though it was meant as a thought, and was only said aloud accidentally. He cleared his throat and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, Luna. I was thinking out loud." He said, quiet.
His eyes were cast down as she spoke again, and this time, he wasn't sure how to respond, so he simply looked up and gave her a sympathetic smile, and apologized quietly. She seemed deep in thought after a moment, and Nikolai grunted in worry. She seemed so fragile, and he couldn't help but wonder what the matter may be. Poor dove.

This horse was so different from the other, he was not a brute, mindless and only going around to impregnate other horses, he was thoughtful and he definitely could help her find answers to her questions. Her honestly wouldn't be that bad of a companion. Maybe, eventually good friends, or something along those lines.
"You have a way with words Nikolai. Something I could never do." She sighed, "Are you one of those who seek to avoid from the brutality?" She asked flicking her tail. In the back of her mind she realized that this is the first time she had been sincerely interested in another horse, excluding her parents, with out bolting off to explore something else or faking interest in their long drawn out "Woes Me" stories.
"Pacifist? A male, still young, handsome too and yet he cares not for the petty things in this world like becoming the best male with the largest herd, but, instead cares for the way a world works, they way the sun shifts position throughout the day. My father would say you'd shine the brightest out of all the stars." She said this, softly, not as a compliment, something to make him full of himself, but, more like a mare just voicing her thoughts.
She laughed kind of nervously at his question, "It's truly a silly thing to wonder, but, I was just thinking about the fact you've had sad, or unpleasant memories, and perhaps sharing them makes it easier to accept them, maybe if you didn't, it would fester like a wound and salt. Silly, right?"
"If you wouldn't mind, what do you mean? What do you think he meant?" She asked, curiosity burning in her words.
She was glad that she met this horse, but, the painful memories of her father started to well up as she talked to Nikolai, she started to remember his happy face, turn dark, gaunt, his ribs sticking out as he ate just enough to sustain him for a little longer, but, not enough to move positions, to clean his once white pelt, not enough to look into Luna's blue eyes, who, at the time, did not understand why her father would abandon her too.

Nikolai dipped his head in thanks to her kind words before she threw a question his way. It was something that involved only a simple answer, and Nikolai was glad to give it. "I am. Brutality falls into the line of fighting. Pointless, unless used in self-defense. Even then, I would only protect myself and my loved ones. I fought once, and though it was for a good cause, it doesn't change the fact that I had fought." Nikolai said in his deep voice. It trailed off as he finished his sentence. He fell quiet and cleared his throat, honey gold orbs looking into the canopy of trees just to his left, almost as if he were trapped within a memory that swarmed his mind so thickly he could not escape.
Luna's voice brought him back to attention, and his audits perked and he was stiff for a moment. He'd delved so deep into the memory just then that differentiating between the past and present had almost been impossible. Nikolai knew then that he was going insane. He snorted lightly and listened to Luna speak, though he titled his head in confusion. It was almost as if her words were meant to be thoughts, and not lyrics. Nikolai nickered gently at her final statement, and since he wasn't sure how to respond, he simply smiled as kindly as his heart would allow.
Nikolai thought on her next words. Stared down at the dead leaves the trees had dropped and simply thought. "That logic would actually make a lot of sense, dear Luna. You're a bright young mare." He said in a soft, friendly tone. A compliment in it's own way, and yet pure truth. She took a few more steps forward, and now, they were standing as far apart as equines that had known each other for a long while, rather than farther away like the acquaintances they were. Nikolai smiled gently and listened as Luna verbalized another question. A question of Nikolai's out-loud-thought. He smiled before answering.
"Well, in Roman Mythology, Luna was the Goddess of the Moon. Her name was derived from Latin." Nikola stated. "But again, that is merely a theory. He could have had other reasoning behind it." He said then before looking at the sky thoughtfully. Without turning his attention from the heavens, he spoke once more, his tone thoughtful as he stated his question. "Was your father interested in the moon, Luna?" He asked, his eyes sparkling at the sky before he looked at the dove once more.
